A walk is organised by the Thalassaemia
Society of Pakistan to create awareness about Thalassaemia and to raise
funds for the cause. The participants include five thalasssaemic children
who took upon the challenge to walk to the base camp of Masherbrum the 10th highest peak of Pakistan to
prove to the World that “ If looked after properly, Thalassaemics can do any
thing in the world”.
We
welcome you to join these heroes and walk for a noble cause. Millennium
Tours volunteers its services and organizes this Charity Walk and hence
contributes towards this social cause.
WALK STARTING : JULY 27
Masherbrum
Masherbrum the 10th highest peak of
Pakistan – is a part of the famous Karakoram Range. At the height of 25,660
feet. It towers above the rest of the mountain, and the peak end’s in a beak
like structure which is covered by snow and usually hides behind a cover of
clouds.

Day 1 |
We travel from Islamabad
to Skardu along the Karakoram Highway
(KKH) or the ancient Silk Route. It is described as the eighth wonder of
the world and runs like a ribbon through the heart of Northern Areas and
links Pakistan
with China
while passing through Khunjerab Pass
(16,000 feet). For its sheer mountain grandeur and breath-taking
panorama of beauty, few places can match the superb landscape through
which the Karakoram highway snakes. The ancient silk route was used by
the merchants from China who brought with them silk that give this
perilous way this name, together with porcelain and lacquer-work, bronze
and iron, species, furs and tea and took back gold, ivory and jewels
from the market places of Ghandhara. We stop for the night at Besham |

Day 2 |
Traveling along the
River Indus
we shall reach the small town of Jaglot,
enriched with different varieties of fruits and vegetables. From Jaglot
we will depart from KKH and start traveling on Skardu road along side of
River Indus.
The road snakes through the Karakoram mountains and reaches Skurdu,
capital of Baltistan which is perched 2,438 meters above sea level in
the backdrop of the great peaks of the Karakoram mountain range.
Baltistan is known as the “Tibet
– e – Khurd”, or little Tibet
since its lifestyle reflects that of the Roof of the World and the land
of Lamas. |

Day 3 |
We rest at Skardu and
complete the last preparations for the trek. |

Day 4 |
We travel by jeep to
Hushe. The journey takes about six hours. The drive along the jeep road
is hot but it is rewarding with magnificent views of Masherbrum
surrounded by lesser peaks, that soar straight up from the valley floor.
We shall camp for the night beyond Hushe village.+ |

Day 5 |
We shall walk from
Hushe to Parbisan. A scenic flat and easy hike to Parbisan the
traditional first camp, six kilometers from Hushe at the edge of a
Tamarish wood is Parbisan. |

Day 6
|
We leave from
Parbisan to Brumbramah, the trek goes through dense Tamarisk forest that
is marshy underfoot, beyond which the terrain changes and difficult
glacial moraine appears, Brimbramah campsite is down to the left of
lateral moraine below the mountain wall on a wide flat sandy area
surrounded by willow bushes. |

Day 7 |
We leave for the base
camp of
Masherbrum at
4200 meters , a small grassy patch below the cliff face looking across
the glacier at the fluted ice gullies and steep rock ridges of
Masherbrum. We camp for the night. |

Day 8 |
We back trek and
return to Hushe. The back trek completes by the middle of Day 9 |

Day 9 |
Jeeps would be
waiting at Hushe to take us back to Skardu and spend the night. |

Day 10 |
We fly onwards to Islamabad
and our destinations |
